Elizabeth
Cleghorn Gaskell, or Mrs. Gaskell as she was known during her lifetime and
well into the twentieth century, was a prolific Victorian novelist and
story-teller whose reputation is currently enjoying a renaissance as the
BBC continues to tap her works for new costume dramas. I have a deep respect for
Gaskell as an author and want to facilitate access to her lesser
known short works so that others can come to appreciate her as well.
I will be adding to this collection over time, annotating the text with my own footnotes and introductions, and occasionally providing voice recordings of the stories as well as the text.
